Korma was first mentioned in 1691. Yet, the archeological excavations attest that human settlements in the territory of the River Sozh basin appeared much earlier. For example, during the archeological digs near Strumen village they found a stone knife which is approx. 17-18 thousand years old. The tribes who created the Grensk culture lived in the area in the post-glacial period (10-14 thousand years ago). The name of this culture derived from the archeological monument in Grensk tract close to Vornovka village in the Korma region. There are archeological monuments all over the region. Ancient settlements and burial hills have been found around 25 settlements. Hundreds of things dated back to the Bronze Age, late Stone Age and earlier periods were found there. The finds feature stone and iron axes, pottery, bronze rings, ivory needles. Archeologists discovered the places of iron smelting. At the same tine the excavations continue in many places and we can only guess what secrets the Korma land will reveal.
